STUDENT PROJECT - UC BERKELEY EXTENSION, FALL 2024
CAROLINA CAYS, NORTH CAROLINA

SOFTWARE USED:
  Revit, Enscape
CLIENT: Ben Folds, Contemporary Writer and Musician

SCOPE: Create a writer’s studio for a writer of your choice in an existing 2-story cast-in-place concrete building. Research demographic, background and programming needs and incorporate all space needs into the design, including a dedicated writer's area.
I selected American songwriter and author Ben Folds as my potential client, with a location off the ocean in North Carolina. Incorporating elements of neuro-inclusive design into the space, I created distinct public and private spaces with a recording studio, photography dark room, rooftop deck and an indoor waterfall. Exterior material choices took into account the harsh ocean atmosphere and included teak boat decking, fiber cement board and fiberglass reinforced composite cladding, in addition to sunlight harvesting through transparent solar panels for the roof and a photovoltaic glass curtain wall.
